The
women in Jaipur celebrate the Gangaur festival. This festival has a special
significance. Young girls offer prayers to the goddess Parvati, who in the Indian
mythology is a symbol of virtue and fidelity. According to common belief young
girls in Jaipur who observe all the rituals of this festival, get married to
the spouse of their choice and married women observe the same for the happiness
of their husbands. The girls start praying to the goddess Parvati fourteen days
in advance of the actual fair. Women come out in colorful processions carrying
idols of goddess Parvati in Jaipur, Rajasthan. Young girls and boys meet each
other and choose their spouses at this festival.
